Unity Agreement Reached
Moments ago, I joined with my friend and former colleague, Brian Jean, to sign an agreement in principle to establish the United Conservative Party of Alberta.
This is truly a historic day for Alberta. We are putting our province ahead of our parties in order to get Alberta back on track.
With this agreement, we end a decade of division by uniting common sense Albertans. It ensures the defeat of this disastrous NDP government and the election of a free enterprise government that will renew the Alberta Advantage. To many Albertans who are struggling today, this agreement sends a clear message: Help is on the way.
I would like to thank PC Alberta members for giving me a mandate to develop this agreement and thank all of those who have worked so hard to make this day a reality.
Since I began my campaign to unite Alberta, I have always been clear that grassroots members must have the ultimate say on the direction of our party.
PC members will decide whether to ratify this agreement in a party referendum to be held in July. A Referendum Committee was established at our most recent PC Alberta board meeting to ensure this happens. You can expect more information about the referendum process soon.
I look forward to meeting with PCs across the province in the coming weeks, to ensure an open and respectful dialogue about this unity agreement. I encourage all Albertans who want to renew our great province to get involved by joining the party. It’s time to have your say on the future of our province.
